Chitkul is the last settlement on the India-Tibet Border whose elevation is 3,450 m (11,320 ft) above sea level. It is a small settlement located in Baspa Valley of Kinnaur District at even higher snowy lofty mountains. The main attraction is Baspa River which has beautifully flowing transparent water like a pearl.

  • Summer (April to June): The weather is nice, apple orchards are in full swing and trekking time
  • Monsoon (June to October): You have plenty of rain, as well as landslides. So, do not visit.
  • Winter (November to March): Very very cold and snowy, making the roads also closed off. But if you are an adventure seeker and are okay with this cold visit.

  • Visit the 500-year-old Devi Mathi temple, this temple has immense cultural significance.

  1. . Rakcham Village:  Located just 10 km prior to Chitkul, this tranquil village is known for its apple orchards as well as wooden houses.
  2. Sangla Valley:  A great alternative to Sangla valley which is also known as Baspa valley. Here you can enjoy lush green meadows, trekking trails and stunning views.
  3. Reckong Peo & Kalpa:  Famous for its panoramic vistas of the Kinnaur Kailash mountain range and apple plantations.

  • Cash is a necessity: ATMs are rare.
  • Mobile connectivity: Very weak to none; Jio works sometimes.
  • Pack warm clothes: Nights are cold, even in summer.
  • Get fuel in Sangla: No petrol stations in Chitkul.
  • Some other things: Basic medicines, torch, power banks are essential.
